Salem, Oregon Is a Great Place to Make a Jump

Salem, home to more than 154,000 people, is the state capital and the seat of Marion County. The climate in Salem is a Marine West Coast climate, with a lot of rain but a dry season from June to September. This allows plenty of opportunity to see the area from the sky above. Opal Creek in the Willamette National Forest, the Willamette Valley, and The Union Street Pedestrian Bridge– especially when it is lit up at night– are all worthwhile stops on a tour of the area. Meanwhile, views from above are beautiful and unforgettable due to the national forest and volcanic Salem Hills.

Try Out the Skydiving Experience With an Instructor

Tandem Skydives Have a Predictable Process

When a Tandem jump is scheduled, the client arrives at the jump zone before the scheduled jump time. This allows you to get a feel for the facility and find out where family and friends will be able to wait. Meet an instructor, learn what to expect, and get the appropriate gear. Then, you get in the airplane with your instructor, rise to the appropriate level of elevation and have your instructor attach his or her harness to yours. You move to the doorway and jump. The jump has roughly 25 seconds of free fall and may reach 120 miles per hour. Then, after drifting under the open parachute, the landing begins and you come back to earth, ready to celebrate your accomplishment.

Equipment Is Needed for This Jump Experience

During a Tandem jump, it is important to have goggles so you can enjoy the beauty as you fall through the air. It is also important to have a passenger harness, a container with a main parachute and a drogue chute, and an Automatic Activation Device (AAD), which releases the chute at a certain altitude if it has not been released by that point.

What Makes Jump Zones Appealing

A jump zone can be a welcoming environment for you as well as for those who love you. Picnic tables, vendors selling food, and comfortable seating areas are only some of the possible features you can find at our jump zones. A facility that provides comfort and a great place to visit before and after a skydive is sure to be what you find when you get there. Amenities vary. Talk to the staff at Salem to find out specifically what is available at the location in your area.

Other Services
When you plan your jump, make sure your loved ones come along with cameras to capture your thrill and fear. If you have no one to take the pictures or videos, we offer the services in a package that can allow you the guarantee of a fulfilling experience and a video to share. You can also look into gift cards for people in your life who need to have an experience like yours. If you think that you might want to become a videographer or jump solo someday, read on for the options available to bring those dreams to life.

Skydiving Means More Than Jumps From a Plane

Indoor skydiving, sky surfing, swooping, and speed skydiving are all part of the skydiving experience. These disciplines are the epitome of the training and expertise needed to achieve success. Each activity is unique and comes with specific requirements. An experience like indoor skydiving requires an indoor wind tunnel. It provides a six to eight minute experience that would be similar to the time spent in the air when the free fall begins from the plane. Meanwhile, swooping is what canopy jumping is called. It involves falling as quickly as possible and flying as fast or far as you can while mere inches from the ground.

Speed skydiving is a competition where participants attempt to achieve and maintain the highest possible terminal velocity – which can be as high as 300 miles per hour. Three jumps are made, and the desired result is a meet result that is greater than the other participants, or the achievement of a new World Record. These different disciplines provide an element of skill and precision to the skydiving process. They provide greater challenges for those who pursue the dream of regularly making jumps as a skydiver. There is more to skydiving than the drop from an airplane, and these disciplines show that in a big way.

Try Skydiving School

When skydiving solo is a goal you have or a dream you want to achieve, then it becomes important to decide on a path for training. The Static Line Progression takes a traditional approach to ensuring that people are prepared for the solo experience. The Accelerated Free Fall training process provides faster access to the solo experience.

Federal Aviation Administration Approved Training
Our instructors all meet the requirements set forth by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This means that training guarantees that the client can follow a timeline appropriate to the FAA guidelines and get their license.

Accelerated Free Fall (AFF)
This process is a faster training approach that helps students learn and attain a skydiving license. One or two instructors perform each dive with the student, ensuring they learn the elements of solo dives.
Harness Hold Training (HHT) is in effect during these jumps, so the instructors will maintain a physical hold on the student.

Integrated Student Program (ISP)
After Level 7, various techniques and maneuvers continue to be practiced until 25 jumps have been accomplished. At that point, the student can jump when and where they choose, provided the basic safety requirements of the USPA are met.

Static Line Progression (S/L):
In a jump of this type, the student skydiver makes a balanced exit from the aircraft. As he or she falls, free fall comes to an end rather quickly, as the parachute is deployed by a static line that is attached to the aircraft.

S/L progression Specifics:
The first jump requires four to five hours of instruction on the ground. Each successive one will need 15 minutes of ground instruction. After two of these jumps, the student will learn to deploy the chute themselves.
After 25 jumps, the A license can be applied for and attained.

Smokejumpers, the Firefighters Who Fight From the Fly

Skydiving is an adrenaline rush. It is an experience where skydivers challenge gravity and mother nature to jump from a plane and float safely to the ground – with a significant rush and stunning experience in between. However, most skydivers have that return to safety as soon as their feet touch the ground. For smokejumpers, the danger only grows as they reach their landing point. These individuals are going in to handle wildfires that cannot be reached by roads.

In fact, landing is so different for smoke jumpers that their training includes how to slam into the ground in such a way as to minimize injury. Their landings are guaranteed to be unpredictable, since the chute can get caught by wind currents of 20 miles an hour or more – during the final descent. These jumpers are taught to hit the ground with both feet together, roll to one side with their knees bent and pivot at the hips as they roll to the opposing shoulder. Once they make the landing, the fun begins. The fire needs to be fought, and it has to be done using hand tools and a chainsaw. Trees need cut down and trenches need dug – sometimes hundreds of feet of trench. Skydiving is an adventure, and smokejumpers double that with their day-to-day career of firefighting seasonal wildfires.

Capture Your Jump With Human Help or a GoPro

Taking the jump is the item you cross off your bucket list, but what do you do to make sure you remember every second? Capture every fear and joy as you make skydiving an accomplishment rather than a goal. Trust our experienced staff to jump with you for a fee, or choose a package that includes a GoPro attached to your jump gear.
Make Up Your Mind
A GoPro is a slightly cheaper alternative when you want to capture the experience, and it does see things from your perspective. However, the choice to have a camera flyer jump with you means you can have your thoughts captured before the jump and every moment of fear and exhilaration captured, including your landing. There may be stills included with your completed video, which is also set to music and burned to a CD you can take home with you. The entire experience will be captured, packaged and available to watch over and over again. It can also be shared on social media to make all of your friends jealous.

Make Your Jumps Make Money As a Camera Flyer

Skydiving is a fun pursuit that some people want to experience again and again. If you think that jumping is worth repeating, then you might want to consider ways to share that enjoyment. Some people can opt to become camera flyers to capture skydiving adventures for those who are crossing it off their bucket list. Your effort to provide them with a video or photos to help cement those memories will mean the world to them.

In order to become a camera flyer, the first step is having the jump experience. Next, find someone that is a camera flyer already and ask them how they got started, ask for advice on the right equipment, and about their most difficult lesson when first starting. If their stories don’t scare you off, the next step is to jump with the camera, and be prepared to pay. Once you are committed to this idea, it is time to consider the feeling of that jump, combined with the satisfaction of capturing a jump for someone else. Become a part of a memory they will cherish forever. That type of experience is not something that is easily replicated.
