Providence Tandem Parachuting

Revel in the Excitement of Our Tandem Jumps

Curious about skydiving and ready to take your curiosity to the next level? If your answer is “yes” to the above, look no further than Parachuting.com Providence, Rhode Island. With our tandem jump package, you can enjoy great views of picturesque Providence from 14,000 feet above ground level (AGL) and then experience the thrill of freefalling for about half a minute while safely harnessed to a member of our professional skydiving team. What’s more, tandem jumps are always facilitated by one of our Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certified instructors.

Tandem Jump Steps

Just so you know, some of the things that may happens when you go for a tandem skydive package with us are listed below:

  • Arrive at the drop zone earlier than your scheduled jump so you have time to get acclimated to the facilities and to determine where your family or friends may wait for you
  • Meet your Skydive Instructor who will brief you on what to expect and give you important instructions on how to properly position your body and prepare you for the skydive itself
  • Watch an informative video on what to expect during a tandem jump
  • Be outfitted in the appropriate gear
  • Board the aircraft with your instructor
  • Ascend to jump elevation in the plane
  • The instructor will attach himself/herself to you
  • You and your instructor will move toward the doorway (you will appear to be sitting right above the back wheel)
  • You jump! The jump from 10,000-plus feet will consist of roughly a 26 to 30-second freefall (or longer), and you can achieve speeds of up to 120mph at this point. Typically, the parachute will deploy at around 5,500-6,000 feet, which will, in turn, slow down your speed and allow for a peaceful descent back to the drop zone (about six minutes or so).
  • Your epic landing will then commence so you can celebrate your achievement with friends and family

Required Equipment for Your Jump

  • Goggles
  • Passenger harness
  • Four points at which the instructor can attach to the novice (two on the shoulders, two on the hips)
  • Container:
    ○ Main Parachute
    ○ Drogue Chute
The drogue is a smaller chute attached to the main chute to provide supplementary resistance. The drogue allows for two people to freefall at the same speed as a single skydiver.
    ○ Reserve Chute
    ○ Automatic Activation Device (AAD)
In the simplest of terms, the AAD is a small device that monitors a skydiver’s speed and altitude and deploys the reserve chute in the event of an issue.

Experience the rush of adrenalin as the air touches your face and as you realize that you’ve taken the jump of a lifetime! And once the parachute is open, our guy (or gal) will help you navigate the skies! Fun, excitement, and safety guaranteed.

Wingsuiting – The Daring Art of Human Flight

Going many steps far beyond basic skydiving are wingsuit jumpers who have to make a few hundred jumps in order to master the art of gliding through the air for a couple of minutes, sometimes covering areas of a couple of miles.

Wingsuiting comes with some risks. The first fatality occurred in 1912 when Franz Reichelt, a tailor, became the first person who attempted to create a wingsuit contraption that combined elements of a parachute and a wing. He jumped to his death off the Eiffel Tower after successfully misleading the guards.

More successful versions of the wingsuit were invented later in the 1930s made of material like canvas, steel, silk, wood, and whalebone, but they were considered “unreliable.” The wingsuit as we know it today first came out in the mid-1990s, again in France, with much better results.

Flying in a wingsuit requires considerable expertise and dexterity, and to be a wingsuit jumper, you would have to complete at least 200 freefall skydives before even attempting to do a wingsuit jump or getting qualified to use a wingsuit. And for the safety of everyone including the diver, wingsuiting is strictly legislated, so fewer fatalities occur.

Certified FAA Skydivers Take the Lead

Training with us at Parachuting.com Providence, RI means you’ll be focusing on Accelerated Free Fall (AFF) and Static Line Progression (S/L) lessons administered only by Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Certified Skydivers, so you know you’re in great hands!

Our training programs are comprehensive and expertly designed to help you progress at a comfortable pace with FAA-mandated timeframes.

Accelerated Free Fall (AFF)

Comparatively speaking and with no pun intended, AFF is a more accelerated version of instruction toward the pursuit of skydiving certification than traditional methods, like its companion training program S/L.

There are seven progressive steps throughout the course where student skydivers will be instructed in varying degrees of solo skydives, facilitated and assisted by one or more certified skydiving instructors jumping alongside the student.

Although AFF involves seven steps, it is considered more accelerated because the student will commence performing an actual freefall solitarily (solo) more rapidly. By saying rapidly, we are referring to commencement in respect to the amount of time students wait and are instructed on the ground before they are able to freefall for the first time, not the speed or rate of the fall itself. The first freefall in AFF may be executed following seven hours or so of ground instruction whereas in S/L the student will not perform an actual freefall until after three or more jumps demonstrating a requisite technique.

Your First AFF Free Fall

So what happens on your first AFF program freefall?
● Commences at 10,000-12,000 feet AGL
● Facilitated by two AFF instructors jumping alongside the student skydiver
● Instructors will maintain physical contact by practicing Harness Hold Training (HHT), which is the act of gripping the student by their harness
● HHT will be executed until the student deploys their own chute
● Student may experience 50 seconds or more of freefall

Seven Steps in United States Parachute Association (USPA) Mandated AFF Instruction

Levels 1-3:
● Requires the assistance of two certified Instructors jumping alongside the student
● Students receive instruction in altitude awareness, body position, stability, pull sequence, and effective chute deployment
● Level three will see the student being released in actual freefall to fall entirely on their own

Levels 4-7:
● Instruction for “in-air skills”
● Turns
● Forward movement
● Docking onto others
● Performing ‘Superman’ exits from the aircraft

The successful completion of each level will require a jump and the demonstration of an understanding of the principles the student received in instruction for that level. Instructors will very often film each jump to visually demonstrate where the student may need to apply more work and effort.

Integrated Student Program (ISP)

Following level seven, the student skydiver proceeds to what is called the Integrated Student Program (ISP) where they will continue to practice various maneuvers and apply principles on their own or with an instructor until they have achieved the qualifying number of jumps (25) to apply for their A license. Once they have acquired this license, they can jump where they want to and when they want in accordance with the USPA’s Basic Safety Requirements (BSRs).

Static Line Progression (S/L)

In the simplest of terms, S/L is a jump commenced at 3,000 feet AGL where the student skydiver executes it at a somewhat balanced or suspended exit from the plane. As the student skydiver essentially falls away from the aircraft, the main canopy is deployed by a static line affixed to the aircraft, and the student will experience a roughly two to three minute fall.

S/L Progression Instruction

Here’s what will happen in your S/L Progression class:

  • Four to five hour ground instruction
  • First S/L jump commences at 3,000 feet AGL
  • Each successive jump will require 15 minutes of ground instruction
  • Following the execution of two effective S/L jumps, students will be instructed in deploying their own chute (pulling the ripcord)
  • Three more S/L jumps are executed while demonstrating the capability of the student to pull the ripcord by pulling a “dummy” ripcord effectively
  • The static line is still facilitating the deployment of the chute at this stage
  • Once the previous steps have been executed effectively, it is time for the student to demonstrate a freefall
  • Upon completion of 25 jumps, the student may apply for their A license and be cleared of student status

Pararescuers – Saving Lives in Combat and Humanitarian Crises

So who hasn’t dreamed of becoming some sort of superhero? If you think you need to be a member of the Justice League to be a superhero, you are grossly mistaken.

Pararescuers or pararescuemen are a special arm of the Unites States Air Force and Air Combat Command “… tasked with recovery and medical treatment of personnel in humanitarian and combat environments” like NASA water landings.

Since pararescuers are specially trained as an elite rescue and recovery group, getting into this squad in the United States Air Force isn’t particularly easy with over 80% of entrants unable to make the cut.

One of the most challenging parts of the equation is not the airborne part, but the excruciating underwater training which can really challenge even those with lungs of steel. This is a field where surfers and competitive swimmers get a definite edge over those who are less underwater inclined.

But, never fear. They say only quitters actually lose out on the chance to make a significant difference as a pararescue. Since you’re here reading this and getting trained to be a professional skydiver, we can safely say you are definitely no quitter and that you’re halfway there.

Parachuting.com Providence Videos and Imagery

Make Precious Memories with Our Special Imagery Packages

Your skydiving experience will be lost in time without a special record you can look to over and over again through the years, and we have crafted two very special options for you to choose from: our basic videography service by one of our official camera flyers and our GoPro / Handycam alternative where the skydiving Instructor you are jumping with will have the GoPro camera record all your actions from a more “up close and personal” vantage point.

Should you go for videography or take the GoPro / Handycam route?

Our videography is definitely competitively priced but a tad pricier than the GoPro option since a videography pro will be jumping alongside you to record your total experience, from just before boarding the plane to your jump and all that goes in between and after.

Your designated camera flyer will also be exiting the aircraft before you to ensure your experience is captured from the most advantageous perspectives, taking a record of all your facial expressions, sighs and screams, and your epic landing of course!

The final video will be a professionally edited masterpiece on CD (with additional snapshots as well) incorporating the elements of sound, imagery, and music, and will be available within less than an hour.

Got what it takes to be a Camera Flyer?

Learning to professionally skydive is no easy feat, and to be a camera flyer is, well, going to take a very special commitment to perfecting your skydive and your craft.

Camera flyer wannabes sometimes realize a little late how much time and money they will have to spend for them to make a decent living out of being a photographer/videographer for various skydiving sessions. You have to pay for the first 50-100 jumps you’ll make on your own as you train to be a camera flyer professional until you get a full handle of your equipment and the various techniques you need to employ in order to get the best angles and shots for various skydiving activities.

In truth, you need to be an expert skydiver prepared for the added weight of equipment with the dexterity required to manipulate your tools and an artistic eye to produce high quality videos and images.

How to start?

Find a mentor. You also need to be aware of the risks and the level of expertise needed to avoid such risks. You must be goal-oriented, focused, and patient with yourself as you try to be the real deal.
