Why Should I Try Skydiving?
Most people would probably say “Why would I want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane?” The answer is, because there’s no rush quite like skydiving. As you jump out of the plane you’ll get to experience 20 to 30 seconds of freefall. You’ll feel the wind in your face like never before as you hit over 100 MPH. There’s nothing like watching the landscape get closer and closer from the sky. It’s the ultimate adrenaline rush. If you’re scared, know that the youngest skydiver ever was four years old, and the oldest was 101.

What does it feel like?
It’s about as close as you’re going to get to flying. Many people say it feels like you’re floating. Our experienced instructors will make sure you feel the excitement of jumping out of a plane as safely as possible. Once you experience freefall you’ll want to do it again. Call us to experience the rush today.

Henderson is a great place to try skydiving. The desert climate means that the weather is generally mild to warm so you don’t have to worry about the cold. Beyond that there are some beautiful natural features around to see on your way down.

The McCullough Mountain Range is just 16 miles from the city. The mountains feature black rocks that were created from volcanic eruptions that happened millions of years ago. The mountains have an average height of about 3,000 feet. You may also get a chance to see Duck Creek, a little bit of water in this desert landscape, depending on your location. The desert landscape isn’t all you’ll see.

Henderson is just a few miles from Las Vegas. Depending on your location you may get to see the hotels and lights of the Las Vegas strip. You’ll find some interesting views wherever you happen to jump from.

Henderson, Nevada Tandem Skydiving

The Carefree Jump

Tandem jumps are a great place to start for first time skydivers. In a tandem jump, the jumper is attached to a Federal Aviation Administration certified instructor who will deploy the chute, and guide you down safely to the ground. You get to experience all the excitement of freefall without dealing with any of the functional responsibilities. The tandem jump process is really simple.

The Tandem Jump Process:

You’ll want to get to the location early so that you can check out the facilities, and your friends and family can stake out the best spot to see you land. Next you’ll meet the instructor you’re jumping with, and he or she will show you proper body position, and go over some general skydiving stuff. Then you’ll watch a video that will give you the lowdown on what to expect during your jump. Then it’s time to get geared up.

Skydiving Gear

Skydiving gear is pretty standardized wherever you go. You’ll put on goggles to protect your eyes from the wind, and a passenger harness. You’ll have four points of contact with your instructor: two on your shoulders and two on your hips. The other standard gear is the container with the main chute, drogue chute, reserve chute, and Automatic Activation Device. You’re ready to get in the plane and climb to 10,000 feet.

The Jump

Once you’re at about 10,000 feet it’s time to jump. You’ll experience freefall for about 25 to 30 seconds. During free fall you’ll hit a face-numbing speed of up to 120 MPH. At about 5,000 to 6,000 feet the instructor will deploy the chute and guide you down safely. Once on the ground you’ll celebrate the epic adventure with your friends and family.

Indoor Skydiving: Not The Same As The Real Thing?

Looking to get a taste of skydiving without going up in a plane? Indoor skydiving is exactly what you’re looking for. Indoor skydiving gives you the chance to experience a portion of the traditional skydiving experience. You’re probably wondering how it works.

How Indoor Skydiving Works

Indoor skydiving takes place in a vertical wind tunnel. Huge fans push air along the sides and up from the bottom of the tunnel and propel you upwards. The air can reach speeds up to 120 MPH, similar to what you would experience during skydiving. The person is able to essentially float in the wind column, and experience something similar to the free fall of skydiving. Although the experience is similar there are some differences.

Differences

The most obvious difference is there’s no jump from a perfectly safe plane. You don’t get the experience of climbing up to between 10,000-14,000 feet. You simply go into the room and have the air lift you up. The next big difference is you don’t get the canopy experience of skydiving. The canopy period is when your chute deploys, and you slowly come back down to earth. You’re also not affected by weather, because you’re indoors. There’s no age requirement. People of all ages can try indoor skydiving. Indoor skydiving allows you to experience free fall for as long as you want instead of 25 to 30 minutes.

Skydiving Academy For Freedom In The Sky

Skydiving Academy is your chance to learn all about skydiving. Once you’re done you’ll have the opportunity to gain certification, and dive solo wherever you want. You can also start teaching others or become a professional skydiver. At Parachute.com Henderson we make sure you get the instruction you need.

Our instruction
All of our instructors are Federal Aviation Administration certified skydivers. They’ll provide you with the exact training you need to get certified. Our instruction is in-depth and paced just right to maximize your understanding while staying within the FAA timeline. We offer instruction in two main styles of skydiving Accelerated Free Fall, and Static Line Progression.

Accelerated Free Fall (AFF)
AFF allows you to start solo jumping faster than other methods of training. In AFF you’ll perform you first jump after about seven hours of ground training, other methods require at least three jumps with an instructor. AFF has a seven-step process that starts with basics such as body position, and stability, and progresses to in air skills like docking with others, and forward movement. Then you’ll need to complete 25 jumps before applying for your license.

Static Line Progression (S/L)
In S/L you jump from a plane that’s at about 3,000 Feet with a static line attached to you. This line facilitates the chute deployment for you. You’ll get the chance to experience two to three minutes of freefall. You’re required to make at least two effective jumps before you can start pulling a dummy cord. You need three jumps with the dummy cord before making actual jumps. Your first jump requires you to pull the cord right away, and your second requires you to do this after a 10 second delay. You’ll do this over progressively higher altitudes.

Whichever you choose we’ll provide you with the instruction you need.

Smokejumpers The Parachuting Firefighters

Smokejumpers are the badasses of the firefighting world. They parachute into wildfires that are typically in remote areas. They can get to a fire soon after it starts to try and contain it. This can save millions in potential damage. Smokejumpers are widely used in Russian and the United States. Russia currently has the largest number of smokejumpers. Smokejumpers have a long history in the US.

Smokejumpers History

In Methow Valley, Washington in 1939 a professional parachutist started trying to parachute into various mountainous and timber covered terrain. During these tests the first Forest Department employee Francis Lufkin jumped, most likely on a dare from the parachutists. In 1940 a permanent jump team was set up in Winthrop, Washington, and in Huson, Montana at Nine Mile Camp. On July 12, 1940 Rufus Robinson and Earl Cooley made the first official smokejump in the Nez Perce National Forest. During World War II around 240 men worked as smokejumpers, many of which were contentious objectors. They worked to put out blazes all throughout the country including California, and Oregon. Smokejumpers have been serving the country ever since in smokejumping crews.

Smokejumping Crews:

The United States has nine smokejumping crews in service. The Bureau of Land Management currently has two of them, and the United States Forest Service has the other seven. Smokejumpers aren’t just used for fires. During their downtime they also help with forestry, disaster relief, and emergency management.

An imagery package is the perfect way to document your skydiving experience. It didn’t happen if there’s no proof, right? We offer two different imagery packages.

Instructor Option:

Your instructor can be equipped with a GoPro to document your time in the sky. He or she will be attached to you during your tandem jump and will catch all your screams for your friends and family’s enjoyment. It’s a really option to use. Our other option gives you much more:

Videographer Option:

This is the premium option for documenting your experience. A videographer will document everything from your time on the ground, to your time in the plane, and your last words before you jump. They’ll catch all the action on the way down, and even touch down before you to capture your landing. A videographer is slightly more expensive, because a professional jumper is jumping with you. They are competitively priced and either option gives you permanent proof of your bravery.

What You Get:

We’ll edit together the video for you complete with music for the entire journey. We’ll also get some great pictures of you too. All of this will be put on a cd for you to take with you. Both the video and pictures can easily be shared on social media with your friends and family.

Make sure to call ahead and check on availability for a videographer.

Camera Flyers: The Little Known Skydiving Professionals

Camera flying takes an advanced set of skills in addition to becoming a certified skydiver. In order to become camera flyer you have to be both a great skydiver and a great cameraman. There’s no easy way to fall out of a plane and capture video with a camera on your head. Most skydiving companies are going to want you to have at least 50 jumps as a camera flyer before they’ll hire you. That means you’re going to need invest some money in getting experience before you’ll see it pay off. They first thing you’ll need is the right equipment.

There are two essential pieces of equipment: a camera and a helmet. Thankfully, cameras are getting smaller and lighter and your neck will thank you for this. If possible get a wide angle lens to capture the action. The ideal helmet will keep the camera completely enclosed to avoid damage during the jump. Once you’ve got your gear it’s time to start shooting. Shooting can be difficult up in the air. Two things to focus on are doing your best to capture the complete story, and trying to keep the sun at your back. If the sun is in the shot it can cause glare, and no one wants a video where they can’t see their face. You need to go out, shoot, and review your videos to improve your work.
