Here is a closer look at what happens in case you need receipts for the occasional doubting Thomas.
Step by step guide to tandem jumping
Arrive at the drop zone earlier that the scheduled jump time in order to acclimatize to the facilities and see where family and friends can wait. Your skydive instructor will introduce themselves and give you a briefing so you know what to expect. There will be an informative video that will explain in detail what to expect from the jump. Then it’s time to strap on the gear, board the aircraft and ascend to jump elevation at which point the instructor will attach themselves to you. The jump happens from above 10,000 feet and normally involves up to 30 seconds of freefall. This is followed by an epic celebration in the drop zone.
Equipment needed for tandem jump
In order to avoid being a statistic there are certain things you need for the jump. Goggles and a passenger harness are standard. There is a main parachute which is attached to a drogue chute that can handle the weight of two people. Then there is a reserve chute as well as an Automatic Activation Device which deploys the reserve chute in case of emergency.

Learning from the skydiving academy at Parachuting.com
While tandem skydiving is a great way to get a feel for the hobby, if you are really serious about diving solo or taking it up professionally then further types of skydiving instruction are necessary. The two most popular courses are AFF and Static Line Progression. More details about both are available below.
Strictly professional training
All training at Parachuting.com is facilitated by FAA certified skydivers. This means that customers who train are also eligible to get FAA certification once they complete comprehensive training.
Accelerated Free Fall
With this course the emphasis is on getting the student to jump alone as quickly as possible. During the first free fall in AFF two instructors jump alongside the student, grip their harness and instruct them when to deploy their harness. In order to comply with the United States Parachute Association regulations for certification there are seven levels that need to be passed. They start with certified instructors jumping along the student and culminate with the student doing a “Superman” jump out of the plane. Often instructors film the students jumping in order to give specific feedback.
Static Line Progression
This is a jump from 3,000 feet where the student exits the plane but is guided by a static line attached to the main canopy. The first jump requires up to five hours ground instruction but subsequent jumps only need 15 minutes of ground instruction. After at least three successive static line jumps have been executed successfully the student can demonstrate free fall by using the pull sequence as soon as they exit the craft. With each subsequent jump the elevation gets higher and the time delay to pull the chute is extended. After 25 the novice can apply for A status which takes them out of the student classification. At this point, the sky’s the limit.

Preserve the memories of your skydive with imagery
There is a modern proverb that states that if an event occurs but was not shared on social media then it might as well never have happened. In this spirit, if you are going to jump out of a moving plane then it only makes sense to record every epic moment. If you are using Parachuting.com in Colorado Springs to skydive then there are two options to help you achieve this. The videography package has a cameraman assigned to record the entire jump.
This camera flyer starts off by recording your thoughts on the ground. After boarding the plane they also get your final thoughts before the big leap. They exit shortly before you in order to perfectly record the moment you leave the plane. During the jump they record every yes, every facial expression and all those excited screams. They then land first so they can capture an amazing landing. The entire recording is saved to a CD that also has stills showing highlights of the skydive. The CD can be used to upload videos and images to social media and share with family and friends.
The more cost effective option is when the skydiving instructor you are jumping with straps on a GoPro or Handycam to record. This is a more personal vantage point and allows a more up close view of the jump. Whatever option you choose it will definitely be the best way to preserve special memories.
The dynamics of capturing a skydive
Being a photographer is a challenge that requires people skills as well as technical expertise. Now imagine having to do all that while hurtling through the air at breakneck pace. Not to mention having to work around other jumpers especially first timers who might be nervous but determined to get good footage of their milestone moment. Being a camera flyer is as rewarding as it is challenging. The first rule of camera flyer club is that you must be an experienced skydiver. The next thing which is equally important is the equipment. A good start is a professional helmet that allows for camera mounting. The camera equipment itself needs to be up to the task of this specialized filming and photography.
An analog camera will not be able to produce the crisp images required at that altitude. For this reason most professionals shoot with Mini-DV format cameras because they are lightweight and produce stunning images at all resolutions. In order to get familiar with the equipment it is recommended that you jump at least 50 times before shooting live subjects. This will allow you to learn how to move around other jumpers, work out best angles and make sure the sun does not ruin shoots. Mishaps such as camera flyers getting tangled in formation flyers can happen but this can be avoided with practice.
