Bridgeport, CT, has just what you need to skydive
The city of Bridgeport is located in the southwest corner of Connecticut, right by the shore. Being the largest city in such a small state means that people visit Bridgeport often. Located in Fairfield County, the view of the ocean makes Bridgeport a great place to skydive. Not only will you get to view the city from high above, but also any one of the historical buildings the city has to offer including: St. George’s Episcopal Church, Thomas C. Wordin House, First Church of Christ and the Barnum Museum, as well as many other architectural buildings in the city. We will take you over all of this and more.
Tandem jumping is easy, but great fun.
When beginning skydiving, there are a few steps you need to take before skydiving on your own. Tandem jumping is where most skydivers begin. When you begin your skydiving journey, Tandem jumps facilitated by a Federal Aviation Administration-certified Instructor are where Parachuting.com Bridgeport recommends you start. Don’t worry though, you’ll still get to see everything from up in the sky at 14,000 feet Above Ground Level with your instructor attached to you. You won’t be the one actually letting the parachute out, but you will be able to experience what that feels like when it’s done.
If you’re Tandem skydiving with us, please arrive at the drop zone earlier than your scheduled jump so you can adapt to the facilities. Your instructor will explain to you before jumping off the plane what exactly will happen once you’re in the air. You’ll watch a video on what to expect, you will learn how to position your body, and will be fitted in the appropriate gear. After this, you will board the aircraft with the instructor and ascend to jump elevation in the plane.
The jump from 10,000 plus feet will consist of roughly a 26 to 30 second Free Fall! You could be seen achieving speeds of up to 120 mph. The parachute will deploy around 5,500-6,000 feet and will slow your speed and allow for a good descent back to the drop zone. You’ll land safely and softly. Celebration!
The equipment for a Tandem jump consists of goggles, a passenger harness, main parachute, drogue chute, reserve chute and an Automatic Activation Device (AAD). The AAD is a small device that monitors a skydiver’s speed and altitude and deploys the reserve chute in the event of an issue. Happy skydiving!

Please call ahead to see what other facilities the drop zone may have – possibly food for sale or drinks for purchase. Purchasing a gift certificate for a Tandem jump is a great idea because it gets that certain person in and ready to go. The videography package settles the score.
As if skydiving wasn’t enough, you can speed skydive.
Speed skydiving is something for advanced skydivers. Have you mastered the Tandem jump, Accelerated Free Falled on your own and are ready to move forward? Speed skydiving is just the thing.
The International Speed Skydiving Association organizes speed skydiving competitions. The goal is to maintain the highest possible terminal velocity. The speed achieved by a person in Free Fall is affected by their body mass, orientation in the sky, skin area and texture. Terminal velocity happens when gravity balances the force due to air resistance. During the completion, skydivers from all around can set world records.
There are a few rules though:
-The measurement zone is a vertical kilometer where speed measurements are taken. This zone starts at 2,700 m and ends at 1,700 m Above Ground Level.
-The speed-measuring device is two Free Fall computers placed on the lateral webbing of the person’s rig.
In the qualification jump, the minimum qualification speed for men is 300 km/h and 250 km/h for women.
A qualified competitor is one who has met or exceeded the speed requirements or who has previously participated in a competition and qualifies to compete.
Put speed skydiving on your list if you need to ramp up your skydiving adrenaline.

Skydiving Academy teaches you way more
At the Parachuting.com Bridgeport Skydiving Academy, we teach you skydiving instruction using either the Accelerated Free Fall or Static Line Progression methods. You need this training if you want to skydive solo. Here, we explain the different types of training so you can decide which one would be best for you.
Accelerated Free Fall
With our Accelerated Free Fall (AFF) training, you get close to your goal of solo skydiving certification. Through seven progressive steps, student skydivers will be taught how to solo skydive while being assisted by one or more certified skydiving instructors. The student will perform a Free Fall jump more rapidly than with the Static Line Progression method, hence the “Accelerated” in the title.
The first fall in AFF will be at 10,000-12,000 feet Above Ground Level, assisted by two AFF instructors jumping alongside the student. The instructors will maintain physical contact by practicing Harness Hold Training and the student may experience 50 seconds or more of Free Fall. There are seven steps in the United States Parachute Association-mandated AFF Instruction.
Levels 1-3 require the assistance of two certified instructor to jump with the student who learns to be aware of the altitude, positioning their body, stability in the air and effective chute deployment. Levels 4-7 include instruction for in-air skills, turns in air, forward movement and docking on to others.
Integrated Student Program:
After successfully completing these seven levels, the student moves forward into the Integrated Student Program. Here, they will practice various maneuvers on their own or with the instructors. They continue until they reach the required 25 jumps and experience to apply for their solo A license.
Static Line Progression:
The Static Line Progression training method is slower than the Accelerated Free Fall one. It is a less scarier for some beginner skydivers. You will complete four to five hours of ground instruction. Your first Static Line Jump is from 3,000 feet AGL. Each jump will require 15 minutes of ground instruction. After a few static line jumps, you learn to deploy your parachute yourself and then move to Free Fall training..
Firefighters walk into buildings. Smokejumpers drop into buildings.
You can take becoming a skydiving fanatic to the next level when you become a smokejumper. A smokejumper is a wildland firefighter who parachutes into a remote area to combat wildfires. Smokejumpers are deployed to fires that are extremely remote where it would take a long time for a fire department to get there. When there are no significant fires, smokejumpers go out in forestry, disaster relief and emergency management.
What’s interesting is that Russia has more smokejumpers than any other country in the world. Smokejumping started in the United States in 1939, but before this, there were experiments with parachute insertion of firefighters. Most of these smokejumpers initially were in the military, but after realizing that more and more fires are not being tended to, smoke jumping broadened.
The fire that had the most line-of-duty smokejumper deaths was the Mann Gulch fire in 1949. This was located in Helena, Montana, along the Missouri River. Thirteen firefighters died during the blowup. This disaster lead to better modern safety standards used by all wildland firefighters, which was absolutely necessary in order to keep smokejumpers around the US safer. Think skydiving firefighting is for you? Join the smokejumpers.

Capture the moment with our imagery packages.
How do you expect to keep this memory of this great moment alive without a video package? Here at Parachuting.com Bridgeport, we make it easy for you. This may be your first and last time skydiving, so why not purchase a video package and remember that gnarly experience forever?
One of our imagery options is a camera flyer who actually jumps with you and films the entire journey to the ground. When the camera flyer videos your entire experience, they record your thoughts before you head out of the plane, every facial expression throughout your jump, and they land before you to capture your face as you touch ground.
The other option is a GoPro/Handycam that the instructor is equipped with that will give you a ‘closer’ video. The GoPro camera gives you a great view on how your jump really was.
At the end, you will be given a CD that will have the final edited version of the video, with, sometimes, some pictures taken of you throughout the trip to the ground. The CD makes it possible for you to post your adventure on social media or send it to your friends. You can carry this experience for a lifetime!
There wouldn’t be skydiving without the professionals teaching
Becoming a camera flyer is the ultimate feeling of freedom. As you become certified as a solo skydiver, you can record your journey on video. The camera flyers make the experience that much better for you, as they have to make sure they have you in sight at all times. These types of skydivers have it the hardest. As if jumping out of a plane isn’t crazy enough, they add a little more craziness when they have to be looking at you and the scenery while they’re doing it. As they’re jumping, they might experience a greater feeling of falling because they have to head out of the plane before you and then land after you.
Becoming a camera flyer gets interesting because there is a lot of equipment involved. They have to make sure that equipment is completely up to par for your video experience to be the best. They definitely need to be ready for anything at the drop of a hat, because the wind could change and take you in a completely different direction. They have to keep their eye on you at all times.
